چکیده

A simple and applicable technique was developed for the detection of soil infestation with rice rootknot nematode, Meloidogyne graminicola by farmers themselves at their fields. The collected soil samples from root-knot nematode infested fields were diluted by adding sterilized sand in the ratio of 1: 1, 1: 3, 1: 7, 1: 15, 1: 31 and 1: 63 and sown with sprouted rice seeds (cv MUT 7029) for determining the infestation level of M. graminicola. Dilution of infested soil with sand in 1:1 ratio resulted heavy infection of M. graminicola and recorded maximum numbers of root galls while minimum root galls were achieved at using of 1: 63 ratio. The dilution of infested soil with sand in the ratio of 1:1 is applied to increase the responsiveness in case of heavy soils. This technique is oriented to detect only rice root-knot nematode, M. graminicola which produces characteristic ‘hook shaped’ galls and cannot be confused with galls of other Meloidogyne species. Hundreds of soil samples can be collected and examined through this technique in a very short time. In addition, the period of March and first week of April is considered as most ideal period for determining the status of M. graminicola in the soil under eastern Uttar Pradesh (India) conditions. Thus, a proper and effective management strategy can be planned earlier by the farmers, if status of rice root-knot nematode, M. graminicola is determined earlier.

Evaluation of Protocol for Assessing the Reaction of Rice and Wheat Germplasm to Infection by Meloidogyne graminicola.

Root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne graminicola), an important and widespread pathogen, causes high yield losses in rice with limited information on wheat and on efficient management. Absence of uniform screening protocols is contributing to slow progress of host resistance development. To develop an efficient screening protocol, several greenhouse studies were conducted, and effects of incubation ...

Effect of organic amendment on organic metabolites in root knot nematode (Meloidogyne Incognita) infested spinach

The Nematodes are roundworms that are found in every environment of the earth. While some species are harmful parasites, others play a vital role in nutrient cycle and medical research. Nematode infestation in the fields is poly-specific; however, depending on the agro-climatic conditions, one or two species are dominant over the rest. The present studies attempts to observe and control the roo...

Effect of Initial Density of Meloidogyne javanica on Salvia officinalis

The influence of different initial inoculum densities of the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne javanica on the growth of sage (Salvia officinalis), root-knot development and nematode multiplication was investigated 90 days after inoculation under greenhouse conditions. With the increase in the nematode initial inoculum densities, shoot fresh/dry weight, shoot/root length and root fresh/dry weight ...

Characterization of isolates of meloidogyne from rice-wheat production fields in Nepal.

Thirty-three isolates of root-knot nematode were recovered from soil samples from rice-wheat fields in Nepal and maintained on rice cv. BR 11. The isolates were characterized using morphology, host range and DNA sequence analyses in order to ascertain their identity. Results indicated phenotypic similarity (juvenile measurements, perennial pattern, host range and gall shape) of the Nepalese iso...
